United Nations Peacekeeping Force is the military force of the United Nations. The United Nations itself is prohibited from operating a standing military of its own, and so relies on local military forces for military power. Initially, the UNPF was comprised of the volunteered military contributions from member states, as well as hired private military companies. The UNPF of today is primarily comprised of the ex-militaries of now-defunct states, most of which have been privatised and wholly hired by the United Nations or its bodies.
